Barwaaqo is a not-for-profit organization focused on transforming agriculture and food systems in Africa. Our mission is to empower local communities through sustainable farming, innovation, and partnerships grounded in cultural understanding and long-term impact.
- Barwaaqo’s work creates ripple effects that extend far beyond the fields. Through our projects, we generate both direct and indirect employment — from farmers and agricultural workers to suppliers, transporters, and local market vendors. Every job we create represents a household uplifted; for example, hiring just 50 people means empowering 50 families in some of the most marginalized and underdeveloped regions of Ethiopia and East Africa. By strengthening market supply chains, we ensure locally grown products reach families, businesses, and communities efficiently and sustainably. Each initiative not only improves livelihoods but also builds stronger, more resilient local economies rooted in self-reliance and shared prosperity.
